About Papa Lu’s Kitchen 陆家村
Papa Lu’s Kitchen 陆家村, located at 13334 Ramona Blvd K in Baldwin Park, California, is a Chinese restaurant that has been a part of the local dining scene, offering traditional Chinese cuisine to the community. Known for its authentic dishes such as roasted duck and salt and pepper pork chop, Papa Lu’s Kitchen has attracted patrons seeking genuine flavors and a taste of classic Chinese culinary traditions. The restaurant operates within the President Plaza Shopping Center, making it a convenient dining option for residents and visitors in the area.
Under the leadership of its key principal, Jason Lu, Papa Lu’s Kitchen has aimed to provide a welcoming atmosphere where customers can enjoy a variety of Chinese dishes prepared with care. The restaurant’s menu reflects a commitment to traditional recipes, appealing to those who appreciate the rich and diverse flavors of Chinese cooking. Customers have been able to order their favorite meals for dine-in, takeout, or delivery, with services facilitated through platforms like DoorDash, ensuring accessibility and convenience.
However, in early 2025, Papa Lu’s Kitchen faced significant challenges when a routine health inspection by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health uncovered serious sanitation issues. On March 4, 2025, an unannounced inspection revealed a cockroach infestation, including live nymphs, egg casings, and dead cockroaches found in critical areas such as near the ice machine, dry storage, and even the women’s restroom. This discovery led to the restaurant receiving a “C” grade and being temporarily shut down to address these health violations. The inspection report cited 15 violations, including four major infractions related to unsanitary food contact surfaces, inadequate handwashing facilities, and the absence of a valid food safety certification.
This closure highlighted the importance of maintaining rigorous food safety and sanitation standards in the restaurant industry, especially in a community like Baldwin Park where multiple establishments had recently faced similar issues. The temporary shutdown was a critical step for Papa Lu’s Kitchen to rectify the problems and restore customer confidence by ensuring a clean and safe dining environment.
Despite this setback, Papa Lu’s Kitchen remains a notable establishment in Baldwin Park’s culinary landscape. Its location and menu continue to attract those interested in traditional Chinese cuisine, and the restaurant’s management has the opportunity to rebuild its reputation by prioritizing health standards and customer satisfaction. The phone number +1 626-498-0253 remains a direct line for inquiries and reservations, reflecting the restaurant’s ongoing engagement with its clientele.
In summary, Papa Lu’s Kitchen 陆家村 is a Chinese restaurant rooted in Baldwin Park, CA, known for its authentic dishes and community presence. While it encountered significant health-related challenges in 2025, the restaurant’s foundation and culinary offerings provide a strong basis for recovery and continued service to its patrons. Its commitment to traditional Chinese flavors and convenient location make it a valued dining option for those seeking genuine Chinese cuisine in the area.

**1-month follow-up** I tried to go on a weekday when everyone else should be at work, and there's STILL so many people! This time, we tried their 冲樓煎糍. That was awesome! Like take 河粉 Rice Noodles, pan-fry them to a crisp then take some gravy sauce over to 濕炒 fry up some more! It's like if you had a 兩面旺 but with 河粉 instead of 蛋麵 egg noodles. paid extra & asked for more 黃鱔 in the 黃鱔煲仔飯. PERFECT 黃鱔:Rice ratio! 👍🏻 ==Original May16, 2026 review== Wow! This is one of those hidden gems that I shouldn't be posting about. Pretty good place, and it seems those in the know already know. I guess I've been 2 years behind the fun bus. Food is decent, so are the prices, and honestly, these folks are from 開平 (Hoi Ping), in the greater 台山 (Toi Saan) area, which is where most of the early Chinese that wound up in North America came from. Basically what those folks couldn't enjoy when they got to these shores, are now available for us here! I mentioned the names of some of those dishes, and my 台山 friend said he misses those things in NY, and despite having a significant population of 台山 folk there, he got jealous of us being able to have that here. 黃鱔煲仔飯 (Eel Claypot Rice) is what the 台山 region i

This is a very nice restaurant with Reasonable prices. The restaurant currently has a C rating , but we took the chance anyways, and it was absolutely delicious. This is more of an authentic style Chinese Vietnamese restaurant. After leaving this review , I woke up in the morning with very bad diarrhea. So yes to the C rating absolutely sticks.

My first time here , I always pass by this place when I go cycling, so I decided to try it out , cycling requires a lot of carbs after a 40 mile ride so I ordered just some steamed rice and sauteed string beans and I must say I'll be coming back to try another dish . The sauteed string beans were absolutely delicious, generous portion , i could only eat half , I've read the reviews of the price and honestly it's worth it , I've been to many fastfood Chinese restaurants and they all kinda the same , the sauteed string beans I had hit differently, the favor of garlic, spices very authentic, I checked out their menu and there's some dishes I'll try next time. friendly service.

Good service, good pricing. Easy parking. However, the bbq pork was not good. Usually would like 50% fat, but this one was 80% fat at least, and the sauce was too sweet.

I had the opportunity to dine at Papa Lu’s Kitchen in Baldwin Park, a restaurant specializing in Taishan cuisine from South China, near Guangzhou—a region my ancestors are from. Many classic American Chinese dishes have roots in this area, as the first wave of Chinese immigrants, including my ancestors, came from Taishan to build the railroads in the U.S. The food at Papa Lu’s stands out from the usual Cantonese fare. Their Taishan Yellow Eel Claypot Rice was a highlight for me—richly fragrant with perfectly cooked rice, tender eel, and a unique flavor that you won’t find elsewhere. Another standout dish was their braised goose, which took me right back to my childhood, when my grandma would prepare similar meals. The goose, slow-braised for hours, was full of deep, savory flavors. Papa Lu’s also offers a variety of Taishan specialties like Roasted Chicken, Pork Tripe with Chicken Soup, sticky rice stuffed intestine, and Vegetable Fruit Claypot Rice. This family-owned spot not only serves delicious food but also delivers great service with a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. If you’re looking to explore beyond typical Cantonese cuisine, I highly recommend trying Papa Lu’s for a tas
